JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position will process microarray-based samples for internal and external Molecular Resource Center (MRC( institutional research core users, including the Affymetrix array platforms, will independently optimize and to troubleshoot microarray sample processing protocols, and will effectively process microarray samples in a timely manner using stringent standard operating procedures. The position assists in consultation with core users, advising on experimental design, and preparing quotations for services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or one of the life Sciences. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of laboratory experience with Affymetrix cartridge microarrays; OR Master’s Degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or one of the life Sciences; Two (2) years of laboratory experience as related above. Two (2) years working with other high throughput genomic technologies (specifically with using Next Gen Sequencing, real time PCR, and liquid handling robots) is preferred. Must have experience working in a core lab environment.
Must have experience working in a team as well as working independently. Must have experience running high throughput volume of samples on expression arrays on Affymetrix platform; and genotyping and methylation samples on Illumina microarray platform. Must have experience with both standard amplification and pico amplification methods for Next Gen libraries and Microarrays. Needs to have experience making libraries for Next Gen Sequencing (RNA-seq, Chip-seq, miRNA-seq, Exome-seq, 16S, ampli-seq, targeted sequencing, Whole genome seq) on both Ion Torrent and Illumina platforms. Must have experience operating and maintaining Ion Torrent sequencers, Illumina NextSeq Sequencer, Nanopore MinIon, Affymetrix Fluidics Station, and Affymetrix GSC3000 Scanner. Needs to have experience in designing high throughput genomic experiments for various tissue and cell types. Must have experience in diverse molecular biology techniques including: Nucleic Acid isolation (RNA, DNA, miRNA), Nucleic Acid purification (bead purification, ethanol precipitation), in vitro transcription, RT-PCR, real time PCR, Sanger capillary sequencing, gel electrophoresis, and Agilent Bioanalyzer. Must have experience interpreting Agilent Bioanalyzer data for quality control. Ability to supervise and train in molecular biology techniques and the types of equipment used in the MRC is desired. Must have experience operating liquid handling robots (Hamilton and Eppendorf). Must be experienced in troubleshooting experimental methods when dealing with various types of samples varying in amounts, quality, and various cell and tissue types; and be able to adapt protocols as needed. Must have experience with microarray and Next Gen Seq analysis methods and have basic bioinformatics skills and must be able to understand differences in file types from the equipment from both technologies. Must have experience with record keeping and data management for billing purposes of processed samples. Must possess knowledge and skills at working with computers and various software including Microsoft office, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and Internet searches. Must have knowledge in using and maintaining sftp servers, and be able to set up and maintain accounts and data for clientele of the MRC. Must have ability to maintain accurate records that can support audits, and have good organizational skills.
