Position description:

Calico is seeking an experienced and highly skilled scientist who will have a particular passion for developing, evaluating, and applying flow cytometry technologies in support of our Research, Translational, and Pre-Clinical efforts.  As a member of our flow cytometry lab, your results will directly contribute to Calico’s long-term mission of positively impacting human healthspan and lifespan.

You will develop and lead Calico’s Flow Technology Lab. The lab has two missions:

  1. Provide sorting and analysis to Calico’s scientists

Design and execute on highly complex high parameter analysis and sorting experiments for the scientists. 

  1. Maintain the flow cytometry lab at or beyond state-of-the-art

Evaluate new and novel FACS/Flow methods and technologies (labeling methods, instruments, etc.) and, if appropriate, make these methods and technologies available to Calico scientists.

Position requirements:

  • BS/MS or PhD in molecular biology, genetics, bioengineering, or related field
  • At least 6 years prior hands-on laboratory experience in operating flow cytometry instruments
  • Possess extensive and exceptional technical and scientific skills in advanced flow cytometry and related technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to design and validate high parameter flow panels
  • Deep experience with the analysis of flow data
  • Possess outstanding communication/collaboration & proactive planning skills
  • Recruit and manage a talented junior team member

Nice to have:

  • Prior management experience is highly desirable
  • Experience with analysis of high parameter data using machine learning or other advanced algorithms is preferred
  • Familiarity with laboratory robotics, large-scale experiments, process development and flow technology development
  • Expertise with cell culture techniques and tissue processing
